Twenty of the 163 people who were murdered during the unrest are from the uMgungundlovu District.
This is according to the latest unrest statistics released by Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni on Friday.
Out of the 251 deaths in KZN, 163 have been classified as murder while the rest are due to other reasons, including the stampedes which happened during the looting. Briefing the media during a virtual press conference, Ntshavheni said 258 deaths in the province had been linked to the riots but the figure had to be revised downwards after it was found that seven of the deaths were not linked to the violent protests.
