THE Philippine National Police (PNP) launched its Libreng Sakay Program that offers free rides to Authorized Persons Outside of Residence (APOR), Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, PNP chief, said on Tuesday.
Eleazar said the program seeks to ease travel for APORs amid the scarcity of public transport caused by the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in the National Capital Region (NCR) and nearby provinces, which the government imposed to control a resurgent coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
“This is the PNP’s way of reaching out to citizens by providing mobility and other extended services to authorized persons (APOR) so that they could attend to their work with convenience even while the ECQ is in effect,” Eleazar said in a statement.
He said the PNP’s free rides will be available from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Central Terminal in Manila City Hall to Quezon Avenue Metro Rail Transit (MRT) 3 and vice-versa; Camp Crame in Quezon City to “Tungko” San Jose Del Monte Bulacan, Raveling in Commonwealth Avenue and vice-versa; Camp Crame to Rodriguez in Rizal through Litex and vice-versa; Camp Crame to Taytay that travels through Ortigas and vice-versa; Camp Crame to Meycauayan, Bulacan through Mc Arthur Highway and vice versa; Camp Crame to Antipolo City and vice-versa; Pasay to Monumento via EDSA Northbound and vice-versa; Monumento to Pasay via EDSA Southbound and vice-versa; Camp Crame to Zapote, Bacoor, Cavite and vice-versa; and Camp Crame to Novaliches and vice-versa.
The PNP stressed that the health and safety protocols were strictly being observed in its free transportation program.
He said that the passengers were being provided with face masks, bottled water and useful information materials as supplies would allow.
ECQ in the NCR started on Aug. 6, 2021 and will last until August 20 as announced by the national government.
