PETALING JAYA: Students with symptoms similar to Covid-19, or whose family members have such symptoms, do not need to come to school, says Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba.
The Health Minister said there were some recorded cases where students whose family members had the illness attended school and spread the virus there.
We have explained to all schools that any students who show any (Covid-19) symptoms do not need to go to school or educational institutions.
This includes symptoms such as fever, sore throat, cough, loss of taste and smell.
If their parents or family members living with them have these symptoms, these students should not go to school either, he told a press conference on Monday (April 26).
He added that there has been a marked increase in the number of Covid-19 cases this year among those aged 12 and below.
Last year, he said, there were 8,369 Covid-19 cases detected among those 12 and below, while 23,779 cases have been detected in this age group so far this year.
Dr Adham also said the children of those undergoing home quarantine or persons under investigation should also not attend school.
For those in dormitories, he said his ministry is arranging testing on those who show symptoms and to carry out contact tracing, in collaboration with other relevant ministries.
He also said that his ministry has instructed district health offices to conduct targeted testing on school staff members.
A circular will also be sent to Education Ministry employees instructing them to seek exemption or leave from being in school if they show symptoms.
