by PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s Lee Meng Yean-Chow Mei Kuan have made life difficult for themselves in their chase for Olympics glory after losing their Group A opener at the Musashino Forest Sports Plaza.
Meng Yean-Mei Kuan went down 14-21, 17-21 to Indonesia’s Greysia Polii-Rahayu Apriyani in a 47-minute match today. The Malaysians were edgy and nervous while Greysia-Rahayu were ruthless and determined.
The world No. 11 Meng Yean-Mei Kuan have a slim chance now to advance to the knockout stage. They face world No. 1 Yuki Fukushima-Sayaka Hirota tomorrow (Sunday) and must beat the Japanese to keep their hopes alive.
Only the top two pairs advance to the top eight battle.
“We want to say sorry to our Malaysian supporters because we did not get off to a good start this morning,” said Meng Yean.
“We put to much pressure on ourselves and were just too nervous in our first match in our first Olympics.”
