More people are in hospital with coronavirus than ever before, the latest figures revealed as Matt Hancock urged the public not to relax adherence to social distancing rules as more people are vaccinated.
Dont blow it now, the health secretary pleaded after a warning from the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies there was a danger that changes to behaviour could offset the benefits of vaccination in the early months of the rollout.
Professor Stephen Powis, NHS Englands medical director, said the vaccination programme will not relieve pressure on the health service for some time, adding: It is absolutely critical that we continue to stick to those social distancing rules that are in place.

More Covid patients in hospital than ever before
More people are in hospital with Covid-19 than ever before, the health secretary announced at last nights Downing Street press conference as the latest official figures showed 37,475 were in hospital with the virus.
Matt Hancock urged the public not to blow it and stick to coronavirus restrictions as the vaccination rollout progresses, after warnings from the governments Sage group there is a risk adherence may relax as more people get a jab.
Boris Johnson had earlier warned the UK remained in a pretty precarious position and said the eventual easing of lockdown measures would have to be gradual.
