Corrections officers are working to control a riot at Parklea Correctional Centre as helicopter pictures showed smoke and flames billowing from the prison.

Corrections officers are working to control a riot at a prison in Sydneys west with inmates photographed on the facilitys roof.

MTC-Broadspectrum, the prisons private operator, said 14 inmates jumped onto the roof of an accommodation wing about 2pm on Monday.
Parkleas immediate response team officers and the security operation group are managing the situation to safely bring the inmates down from the roof, a spokeswoman said.

The prison is a privately managed facility that houses medium and maximum security inmates.
